Marnie joined Wallmans in 2019 and leads the firm’s Energy and Renewables practice. Her clients include investors, producers, developers, retailers and government stakeholders across electricity, oil, gas, renewables and the water sector.
Marnie has a broad commercial skill set, with over 18 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer, specialising in energy and renewables law. Prior to joining the partnership of Wallmans Lawyers, she held senior in-house corporate roles in the private renewables and energy sector, and was also a partner in a top-tier legal firm.
With a key specialisation in energy projects and the rapidly growing renewables market, her experience has included working on significant infrastructure and exploration projects and transactions, including the acquisition and development of a number of wind farms across the Australian-Pacific region. Most recently she has acted for a major thermal energy storage company for the supply, commissioning and installation of thermal energy devices.
The economic regulation of energy, renewables and water businesses is a key focus for regulators and regulated businesses. Marnie has provided extensive regulatory advice to energy companies in relation to the National Electricity Market, the National Electricity Rules and the National Energy Retail Laws.
Marnie prides herself on her ability to provide practical and strategic advice in a complex and highly regulated industry. Her experience having worked in-house at a number of major energy and resources companies, as well as cutting-edge renewables companies, has given her unique insight into the management, operations and risk profile of such organisations. Further to this, her experience working on major projects has afforded her distinctive skills in negotiating complex commercial agreements, project management, change management and risk mitigation at all levels.
