Most employers know that if an employee engages in serious misconduct, the employer may (depending on the circumstances) immediately "fire" the employee. This will occur without notice or payment in lieu thereof. However, many employers are unaware of just how important it is to conduct an investigation into any allegation of serious misconduct.
